Generation and propagation of yeast prion [URE3] are elevated under electromagnetic field

Both exposure to RF-EMF (2000 MHz and SAR 0.12 W/kg) and ELF-EMF (50 Hz) causes an elevation in prion (alternative conformational form of protein) generation and propagation.

They present some inconclusive evidence that is effect can be mediated by the elevation of ROS (reactive oxygen species) but as they finally state the actual mechanism is still unclear and they cannot exclude the possibility that EMF could affect the process of protein folding directly or via some unknown pathway.
